Signature FAQ
Prospective Students & Parents
Q. When is your application deadline?
A. In mid-fall, there will be an open house for current 8th graders. The exact date will be posted on the opening page of Signature School's website. Applications will be given out at the open house. Open enrollment will continue until the week before Winter Break.
Q. How much is the tuition for Signature School?
A. Signature is an accredited public high school and is free to all students in Indiana.
Q. How do I know if Signature School is right for me or my child?
A. Signature is a good fit for the motivated learner. Most junior and senior classes are Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate, and freshmen must enter at an Algebra I H level. In musical theater, English, science, social studies, media, and math, students are expected to strive for excellence.
Q. May I visit for a day to see if the environment is right for me?
A. Yes. Please make an appointment beforehand with the secretary, Mary Williams, at 812-421-1820.
Q. What if I am placed on a waiting list?
A. Priority is given to siblings of current Signature students. Open enrollment for the next academic year ends before winter break of the previous calendar year. After open enrollment, students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and then are placed on a waiting list. If during open enrollment the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system goes into effect.
Q. What about transportation?
A. Most students provide their own transportation. Those who drive may park in the Civic Center parking lot at no cost or buy a parking permit in a local garage. The city bus terminal is only one block away. Limited school bus transportation is provided in the morning from some area high schools, but bus transportation is not available in the afternoon.
Q. Are there sports or other extracurricular activities?
A. The emphasis at Signature School is on academics. Related activities include speech, yearbook, Global Volunteers, and National Honor Society, among others. We have limited sports activities - dictated by student interest - including track, cross country, tennis, and golf.
Q. How do I find out more about Signature School?
A. You may call 812-421-1820 or visit at 610 Main Street.

Q. Where does my child eat lunch?
A. Students eat at various restaurants on the walkway and are accompanied by a teacher. For the first semester, the freshmen eat in our Commons area, located on the second floor of the Science Center. They may bring their lunch or get carry-out from the 6th Street Deli, Milanos or Lics.
