Spring Break review

by: Andy Weis and Sam Lenn

Spring is considered to be the appetizer of freedom before the greater meal that is summer vacation. Many people enjoy spending much of their break sitting at home, resting their minds and bodies and doing absolutely nothing. However, other people believe in traveling to new places, adventuring in exotic locations, or immersing themselves in another culture. On the other hand it is entirely possible that they wanted to do absolutely nothing somewhere else. My colleague and I decided to interview three signature students to see exactly what they did with spring break. Two of them choose to travel out of the country and expand their horizons.

Kolin Rubel traveled to St. Kits in the East Indies for 7 days, while he was there with his family, he climbed a volcano. Also while he was there he went on a walk through the rainforests, and sailed on a catamaran boat. Snorkeling was another activity that he spent his time participating in. An interesting historical fact that Kolin learned about the Island wildlife is when the British left it they also left their animals so now they have grown wild and roam the island.

Craig Peyton ventured to New York and stayed at the Waldorf Historia for five days. While there he visited many famous monuments such as the Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Chrysler building, and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Craig stated that it was "Big and pretty" when referring to New York as a whole. He also visited many well known locations such as Madison Square Garden and Grand Central Station. Craig believes that the best part of his trip was the shopping. He shopped at many locations, spending most of his time at his favorite places; H & M is the best place to shop. He also shopped at Macys, Banana Republic, Toys R Us (which had a Ferris Wheel), MTV store, and Billabong, Chinatown and Little Italy. One of few complaints that Craig had with the trip was that the food was more expensive. For example, a salad he bought cost $5. Another problem that Craig had with the trip was the double Decker busses and how delayed they were.

Trevor Flick went to England for a Week and saw many great tourist sites. He traveled to Big Ben, Westminster parliament, York, Liverpool, London, and Beatle Story. However it was not all good. The food was horrible, and expensive. All he could find was fish and chips. His favorite part of the trip was the boat rides he took on the Thames. The worst part though was the exchange rate $2.50-£ 1.00.

Many different people went to many different places. From going out of the country to staying at home, Signature students traveled a lot. Now that Spring Break is over many people are looking forward to summer and the many plans that they have.
