It's that time of year. Prom is just around the corner, April 19th to be exact.
And, whether you call it Valedictory Ball, Leavers' Do, Grad, Formal, or Vanhojen
tanssit because you're incredibly well-versed in Finnish customs, you're going to need
some fabulous shoes.
Keep in mind that while rhinestones and straps are fabulous, so is comfort. Create a footwear plan of attack for the evening. Several options, all of which range from somewhat to definitely socially acceptable, are open to you: Plan A, also known as "toughing it out," is only for those with wills and nerves of steel. However, if you decide to go this route, create a mantra such as "beauty is pain" or "fractures heal with time and therapy, and I look amazing." Plan B, going barefoot for the dancing portion of the night, is a far more popular plan. However, many in your party could consider this option repugnant. Plan C, then, is a revelation, a sort of compromise between Plans A and B: Wear your fabulous shoes to dinner, but bring extra shoes to dance in. Maria Smith says, "Flip flops, that's what I'll be wearing [to dance in]."
To be able to implement any of the Plans, though, you are going to need to purchase some shoes. Basics include Shoe Carnival with locations on the east and west sides of town and David's Bridal on Green River Road. If you're feeling adventurous, try buying shoes online. Both zappos.com and shoes.com offer free shipping and free returns; however shipping and returning items take time. So, if you wanted to go this route, you really should have ordered those shoes before this article came out. The mall offers stores such as Macy*s, JC Penney, and Dillard's. If you're in the market for men's shoes, Charles Baker adds that most "guys go to the Men's Wearhouse; high rollers go to Journey's."
So, we all now know where to buy and then how to wear shoes. All the tasks on the "Shoe Do" list are covered, right? Wrong. Would you serve a cake without icing? Would a kitten be cute without fur? No, and neither will your feet be cute, if you don't take good care of them before prom. Ah, how simple it is to forget that feet are gross. But, they are, and you've got to take care when showing them to the world. Always remember to EMP: Exfoliate, moisturize, and polish.
Pat Benatar says "love is a battlefield." Well, I say that beauty is a battlefield. Heed this advice and personalize and implement your own Plan Fabulous Footware for Prom, and prom will go over with no casualties on your side.
