April Fool's Recap

by: Alex Hastings and Nina Bragg

April Fool's Day; that day of the year where everyone double checks their seats for whoopee cushions and thinks twice before believing anything they see or hear. We here at Signature are not much different, though we may not be as active with our pranks as some others may be. So how, exactly, do we celebrate this day of wisecracks and jokes?

This year we have had several people mention April Fool's Day, but many comments were along the lines of "I remembered it this morning" or "I don't have time to pull a joke." Others simply contented themselves with making a brief mention of the day, and moving on. We here at Sig often have so much to do we ignore little holidays like this one. However, some people are determined to continue the spirit of the day. Freshman Cameron Reine kept the spirit of the day with a classic prank, switching the salt and sugar shakers at his house. He also put cans in a closet with paper taped to each top corner to guide the cans in their descent once the door was opened, so the cans could not make too much of a mess. So he was smart and sneaky.

For future reference, just be sensible with what you do and how you react. Most people aren't trying to humiliate you; they just want to have fun. Learn to laugh; it makes life a lot easier. For those pranksters, just remember to choose your targets with care. It is not a good idea to pick on younger children. As freshman Peyton Russelburg says "I think it is very mean to pick on people, especially younger kids." However, your siblings are of course fair game. It is also a good idea to make sure your target has a sense of humor, or trouble could result.

For next year, keep those rules in mind. The following list is just a compilation of ideas; feel free to elaborate.

April Fools Pranks:

  1. Put tape on the water sprayer at home.
  2. Make some "delicious" caramel apples. However, replace the apple with an onion.
  3. Break a chili pepper and rub it a few times on mugs and cups...just be sure to keep a straight face.
  4. Tell a math teacher (choose with caution) the value of pi has been changed and make a fake article.
  5. Super glue money to the ground and watch people try to pick it up.
  6. If you buy your milk in a carton, put some green food coloring in it and the person that pours the milk next will think that it is sour.

Remember! All of these are simply suggestions, and if you think you will get in trouble for playing a prank, don't do it.
