Sometimes there is nothing like curling up on the couch, putting in a movie and just relaxing for the night. There are a bunch of new movies coming to the movie rental shop near you. It is estimated that around are released every Tuesday. For example, August Rush on March 11, I am Legend on March 18, and on April 1, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. You can find more examples on amazon.com.
August Rush, which stars Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, is about an orphan, named Evan Taylor, who is determined to find his true parents and he is destined that they are still alive .Taylor claims that as long as he can hear the music then he knows that they will become a family once again. Lyla Novacek, played by Keri Russell, is a brilliant cellist and the mother of Evan Taylor. After a long night, Lyla went to relax but she got much more than that when she met Louis Connelly, a guitar player. It was love at first sight. Eleven years later, Evan decided to run away to New York City in order to find his parents. He was also determined that if he could learn to play a song that his parents would be able to find him and he would be able to have a family again. While trying to learn to play and find his parents, he stayed with Wizard (Robin Williams) who agreed to take of him if he would earn money in return. This is where Evan earns the name of August Rush after gaining much popularity by the people in New York. This movie was touching and sweet but sometimes the actors just try to hard. August Rush was an adorable movie but the ending is a letdown but it was worth seeing. August Rush comes out on March 11.
It is the year 2012. In the ruins of New York City. Robert Neville, played by Will Smith, is a military scientist, who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that is incurable and man-made. Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City. For three years, Neville and his faithful dog, Samantha, have sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. Victims of the plague, which was supposed to cure cancer 3 years previous, wait in the shadows and watch for him. Neville's only two goals are to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood and surviving as long as he can. I think that this movie was able to provide entertainment but I was mildly disappointed in the plot and in the ending as well. This suspenseful movie is coming out on March 18.
Johnny Depp stars in the dark musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Depp plays Benjamin Barker, who later changes his name to Sweeney Todd after he is falsely arrested for crimes that he did not commit. Thirteen years later, he returns to London to find his wife dead and his daughter in the evil hands of Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman). Todd reopens his barber shop on the top of Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie shop. He hopes to be able to satisfy is thirst for revenge on Judge Turpin. Todd starts to cut the throats of the customers in order to prepare for the Judge. But when time finally comes to "settle his debt", will he be ready? Sophomore Lindsay Witte thought that the "musical was presented" even though she had not seen the original musical. She continues to say that "they were able provide enough information to understand the movie". I have always been a fan of musicals but for Sweeney Todd, it went beyond what I had imaged it to be. I was not a fan of the movie the first time that I watched it but after watching it again, I would call it an acceptable movie. Sweeney Todd will be singing its way into your home on April 1.
Some other movies that are going to be coming out on March 25 are Kite Runner and The Mist. Along with Sweeney Todd, Alvin and the Chipmunks will be coming out April 1. On April 8, There Will Be Blood, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and the Water Horse. Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, Juno, and Lars and the Real Girl will be hitting the shelves on April 15. The Tuesday after that Charlie Wilson's War and The Savages will be coming to DVD as well. The last Tuesday in April will be the date that 27 Dresses, the Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and the Golden Compass will be coming to a video store near you.
So the next time that you are sitting home and you do not know what to do.
Why don't you rent one of these movies and enjoy a good laugh, tear, and scare?
