Weird Weather
by: Andy Weis
Weather in the United States this past year has been weird for many areas; there have been record breaking highs set, and also tornados in places that usually don't have tornados. All of these have been broken since in the U.S. record keeping of weather began in 1880.In the U.S. more than 260 all-time high temperature records were broken. In just August alone the weather in the U.S. broke eight thousand individual high temperature records were broken. In California, there was a freeze that is worrying farmers with their citrus fruits that could possibly kill the crop. In West Virginia, the unusual snow fall of five inches left many not knowing what to do, but skiing. In Indiana, there were tornados in January which usually never happens; it ended in killing three people. Heavy flooding in the Midwest has also been going on. In Indiana, there were several deaths due to flooding.
The weather in the local area has been unusual. In the past month most of the days have had temperatures over the average. The weather also has had dramatic changes, one week the tri-state will have seventy degree weather, and the next week it will be snowing. This has kept many people sick and busy with sinus problems. The small amount of snow that fell on January 14 caused a lot of problems, when just one week before the temperatures were in the middle sixties. Matt Winengar said "It took me twenty minutes to get to school when it usually only takes me ten." Mrs. Williams said "It took me 45 minutes to get to school." Meredith Latham said "that the snow was no factor."
Last week's weather fronts that moved through the nation produced many strong storms, and spawned a few tornados. Some of these tornados have cause dozens of deaths in states like Tennessee.
As the "winter" season goes on, who knows what type of weather the nation will experience.
