What's New In DVD?

by: Jarred Morris

DVDs are a great way to watch movies. The movie theatre is fun if people are going out on the weekend, but a DVD is better to watch because you don't have to fight a crowd. People have different favorite movies, different places they buy or rent them, and different preferences on how to watch a movie. There are disadvantages and advantages to DVDs.

There are many DVDs out there and people have different movies that they like to watch. For example, senior Morgan Devine said, "I like watching Peggy Sue Got Married because it's my favorite movie." Sophomore Abby Dremstedt said, "I like watching Euro Trip because I think it's hilarious." As you can see they both like these DVDs because they are funny.

There are many places to buy or rent a DVD. Devine said, "I buy my movies from Wal-Mart or Best Buy." Dremstedt said, "I buy them from Target or Premiere Video."

There is also a preference on how to watch a movie. Some different choices are: VCR tapes, DVDs, going to the movie theatres, taping it using DVR, or watching the movie online. Devine said she prefers the TV whereas Dremstedt said she prefers DVDs and the movies.

There are advantages and disadvantages to DVDs. One problem is if you want to start where you left off, you have to go through the DVD menu and remember what chapter you stopped at. VCR tapes can be left in the place that you stopped at. An advantage with DVDs is that they have a clear picture and the language can be set to what you want to watch the movie in. VCR tapes don't have these features which can be kind of hard for the viewer. One final advantage is that DVDs are smaller than VCR tapes, which makes them easier to store.

With technology advancing DVDs will probably even get better and one day may even be replaced with a new way to watch movies.
