Freshmen: What they're all about

by: Kayli Russell

Here at Signature, the freshmen come in from different middle schools and backgrounds. They are, metaphorically speaking, infants that have come into this environment. Signature School is a brand new experience for the freshmen. Not only are they at the bottom of the social hierarchy, but the classes are harder and longer. But, now the freshmen have more freedom and independence, and a myriad of after school activities are available. So what do they think of this new adventure?

Cassie White previously went to Plaza Park . When asked what her favorite subject is, she replied, "Geometry. It's surprisingly really fun. I also really like art." Not only does White enjoy those two subjects, but she also enjoys Sig Singers and band. Asking if she had any interest in other clubs, White shakes her head answering, "This year I am trying to adjust."

Dustin Waldroup and Devonne Stowers, both alumnus from St. Ben's, are considerably active in the clubs Signature has to offer. They are both in Conservation Club, Speech, and Student Council. "I'm thinking about Key Club. But, I'm also running for class president," notes Stowers. In addition, Stowers had something to say on why she came to Signature, "I heard it was academically challenging which is what I'm looking for." Waldroup agreed with her. He added, "It is challenging, but in a good way. I like the pacing."

Sai Kalva is a freshman who went to Castle Junior High. He has a brother, named Avir, graduating from Signature last year who gave him some advice. "My brother...explained to me everything [Signature] has to offer. I thought it would be interesting and fun." Questioning what he thinks about Signature, Kalva responds, "It's the best school; it's awesome!" The clubs he is interested in are Key Club, Math club, and Student Council.

It's hard to adjust to a new, different school as White told us, and surely the freshmen all can concur. Moreover, it is important to know the freshman's backgrounds because they will, essentially, one day become the leaders of Signature School.
