Election Overview

by: Jarred Morris

The 2008 election primaries are starting to heat up between the republicans and democrats. During the elections voting also takes place for mayor and positions in the city of Evansville. It should be a very interesting campaign race this year.

There are 10 democrats. The democrats are: Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Mitt Romney just to mention a few. According to CNN.com, Hilary Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois, Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mitt Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan.

There are also 13 Republicans. The republicans are: Sam Brownback, John Cox, Fred Thompson, and Ron Paul again just to name a few. According to republican-candidates.org, Sam Brownback was born in Kansas, and John McCain was born in Panama Canal Zone.

The first day of voting is on November 4, 2008. According to CNN.com, Fred Thompson says he can stop Hilary Clinton. He may say he can stop her because he is a republican and wants to try to become president which most candidates want. CNN.com also says that Oprah can help Obama win in his election. She may say this because she is the second most popular woman in America, where Hilary Clinton is the first. Student Apryl Higgins said, "I think Obama will win because people are unhappy with Bush." She also thinks that "the democrats have a bigger advantage in the elections than the republicans." The republicans may come from behind if they separate themselves. An anonymous Signature Student said, "I think Hilary Clinton will win because of her past work with politics."

The election will probably be a big one since we have had the same president for two years. Obama has been in the news twice according to republican-candidates.org. The more people a candidate gets money donated to the better chance the candidate has of winning the presidential seat.
